2(b) – The types of business (es) that the company is currently involved in.
The Tesco Store we
have visited in Paradigm Mall is not a stand-alone Tesco, but is an anchor
tenant of the Paradigm Mall. One of the businesses which the Tesco Store in
Paradigm Mall involved in is a retailer, in which they purchase the products
from the manufacturers, and sell it them in a small quantities to the
consumers. This retailer store is known as a discount department store that
consists of various department stores that carry with a wide selection of
consumer products in different categories, such as electrical appliances,
groceries, fresh food, men’s and women’s apparel, housewares, furniture, and
many more. It is very convenience for the consumers to search for the goods
which they want to buy. The products can also turn over quickly as they are
offering in lower prices.
Besides, this Tesco
Store is acting as a wholesaler as well, where they purchase the products from
the manufacturers in large quantities, break the bulks, repack the products,
store the products and resell them to the retailers or the small stores. Apart
from that, bakery is also one of the businesses that the Tesco Store involved
in, where they hire workers to produce their self-made breads, such as
doughnuts, French breads, sausage rolls, small buns, croissants, and many more.
In addition, the Tesco Store in Paradigm Mall has provides the after-sales
service, which the service is provided for the products’ maintenance or repair
during and after their warranty periods. These products are usually home
appliances, such as refrigerators, televisions, air conditioners, washing
machines, and many more.
Moreover, this
Tesco Store is one of the outlets who sell their own products – Tesco Value,
Tesco Choice, Tesco Light Choices, and Tesco Finest, which are also known as
private label brands. Tesco Value is the products sell in the cheapest; Tesco
Choice is the products which is most prefer by the customers; while Tesco Light
Choice provides the products which are for the health-conscious, for example
lower levels of sugar, fats or calories; and Tesco Finest provides the finer
products which is in better quality. These private label brands are the
products owned by the Tesco Company and also sell in lower prices.
Other than that,
they also involved in sublet or consignment with Natural Health Farm (NHF), in
which they rent part of their places for the company to sell their products, or
consign with the company to have a profit sharing. Whereby, these are based on
our observations. Last but not least, this Tesco Store is also one of the
outlets which have helped other companies to promote their products, for
example, giving the samples or testers to the consumers.
